On Monday afternoon, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had a phone call conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday’s overwhelming rejection of the international creditors’ bailout deal.
According to the Kremlin the discussion of the two premiers took place after Greece took the initiative and focused on the result of the referendum as well as on the future issues of the relationship between Greece and Russia, without specifying what these are exactly.
“Mr Putin expressed his support for the Greek people in overcoming the country’s current difficulties,” according to the Kremlin’s announcement.
On Sunday Russia’s Deputy Finance Minister Alexey Likhachev unequivocally expressed his opinion that the NO result is moving Greece closer to a Eurozone exit.
Tsipras is currently at a meeting with Greece’s political party leaders that began more than five hours ago.
