Luxembourg FinMin: 'Greek Debt Haircut Not a Taboo'

GramegnaLuxembourg Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna noted that the Eurozone governments may consider writing off part of Greece’s debt, but then the country would have to commit to a new reform package.
“A haircut is not taboo for Luxembourg in the sense that everything can be talked about,” said the Luxembourg Finance Minister in an interview with a local radio stations.
“But it has to be talked about in a global package. If it were presented in a way that the 18 partners have to make a haircut and Greece simply does what it wants that is unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, the French Finance Minister Michel Sapin made a similar statement during an interview with radio Europe1. “A dialogue is already open,” he said on Monday.
“It now lies with the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to make proposals. “The debate on the debt is not a taboo,” he noted.
Last Thursday, July 2, the IMF, published a report claiming that its publication had been blocked by European leaders in the past. The report analyzed the Greek debt, reaching the conclusion that it is unsustainable and requires relief. The report vindicated the leftist SYRIZA government, which has been requesting a debt haircut for months.
