United States Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told Greeceās Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and newly appointed Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos, that Washington “looked forward” to a swift resolution to the Greek debt crisis that affects Europe.
Lew said he hoped a resolution would “allow Greece to make difficult but necessary fiscal and structural reforms, return to growth, and achieve debt sustainability within the Eurozone,” according to an official statement, Reuters says.
White House spokesperson Josh Earnest stressed the importance of Greece and creditors to return to the negotiating table and reach an agreement that would keep Greece in the Eurozone.
“The referendum is over, but our view here at the White House remains the same,” Earnest was quoted as saying by AFP.
“This is a European challenge to solve,” the White House spokesperson added.
