More Migrants Arriving at Greece's Port of Piraeus

migrantsAround 100 illegal migrants, who used to stay at the Rhodes detention center, arrived at the port of Piraeus, Greece, on Tuesday.
The newly-arrived migrants have no plan and do not know whether the Greek state would provide them with accommodation.
They headed to Omonoia Square in downtown Athens, where they will stay until they are able to find a better place. Most of them are really tired from the trip, therefore they set up makeshift beds, made out of cardboard, while several women carrying their young children are looking for a place to spend the night.
The illegal migrants stated that the trip from their respective countries to Greece cost each of them around 1,500 euros.
The situation involving illegal migrants and refugees arriving in Greece has gotten out of hand this past year. In June, around 2,000 migrants and refugees arrived at Piraeus from the Greek island of Lesvos.
The number of illegal migrants and refugees who arrive in Greece from the Turkish coast has continuously increased. The situation has caused problems in several Greek islands, since they have no capacity to host the incoming migrants.
