The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to replace Rishi Goyal, head representative of the institution’s technical team in Greece, with a person who has had experience in analyzing Greece’s troubled economy before.
Greek newspaper “Kathimerini” reported that Delia Velculescu will now be the one assessing Greece’s financial affairs on the IMF’s behalf. Velculescu had co-written an IMF analysis of the Greek economy in the summer of 2009. More recently, Velculescu had been the IMF’s head representative in the Troika that negotiated Cyprus’ bailout deal in 2013.
According to “Kathimerini,” Goyal was replaced due to his rigidness and uncompromising behavior during negotiations with the previous Greek government.
