Reopening of Athens Stock Exchange Postponed

greek-stock-marketAccording to Greek newspaper “Kathimerini,” sources claimed that the reopening of the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) is being postponed because banks have been unable to create new accounts for Greek stockholders.
The stock exchange was expected to open on Thursday after being shut down since June 29. However, per the new rules, “old” money is unavailable to Greeks, who will have to use “fresh” money deposits, among other options, to complete their ASE transactions. Thus, banks must prepare new accounts for Greek investors.
“Kathimerini” further reported that a Ministerial decree, which orders the reopening of the ASE, has been prepared and will be issued when all the mechanisms are in place.
