Events in Archaeological Sites and Museums for August Full Moon

full moonMore than 140 events will take place in various Greek archaeological sites, museums and monuments on the occasion of the 2015 August full moon, on Saturday, August 29. The events will vary from musical and theatrical performances, to shadow theater, guided tours, exhibitions, film screenings, astrophysics observation and free admission to certain archaeological sites and monuments until 1 am.

The Central Archaeological Council unanimously voted “yes” to opening various sites across Greece during the full moon. Last year, 74,000 visitors participated in the 86 events that took place in 120 Greek archaeological sites, museums and monuments.

The Acropolis will not be included in the festivities and the archaeological site will maintain its regular schedule, i.e. until 8 pm, for safety reasons. However, the archaeological site in Sounion will open its doors after four years of construction work and admission will be free until midnight.
