16-Year-Old Syrian Refugee Dies of Exhaustion on Greek Island

kos-migrantsA 16-year-old Syrian refugee was found dead yesterday in a remote area on the Greek island of Kos. He appears to be another victim on the long list of undocumented migrants who lose their lives in the “journey of hope,” travelling from their war-stricken countries toward Europe.
According to local media, the young man passed away due to exhaustion, as well as lack of hydration and nutrition. He had arrived on the Greek island from Turkey, and his brother, who permanently resides in Sweden, was waiting for him on the island.
However, it appears that his body was exhausted, therefore he was left behind in a remote area by the group of migrants.
His brother started looking for him but his efforts were fruitless, so he was forced to contact the local authorities. With the help of the Red Cross, he found and identified the body of his 16-year-old brother.
Kos is among the Aegean islands that have seen more than 120,000 migrant and refugee arrivals in 2015. The island recently had up to 7,000 migrants and refugees. More than 5,000 migrants and refugees have already left the island for Athens.
