Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras congratulated Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Minister Panos Skourletis on Wednesday on his efforts to protect the environment following the latter’s decision to temporarily suspend the license of Canadian mining company Eldorado Gold, arguing it violated the terms of its technical studies.
Tsipras was briefed by the Minister on the developments of the company’s work in Skouries, northern Greece, after which he noted the government’s unwavering commitment to protect the environment and public interest, government sources said.
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” Tsipras was quoted as telling Skourletis during their meeting, according to the sources. They also discussed the Ministry’s latest actions, as well as developments on the issue of the Russian pipeline.
Tsipras and Skourletis will meet again on Monday to discuss the government’s political initiatives.
