Snap elections in Greece did not come as a surprise to the European Commission, stated spokesperson Annika Breidthardt on Friday.
Breidthardt said that before the announcement, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker had a series of phone calls with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
Additionally, the spokesperson noted that the Commission respects the Greek Prime Minister’s decision for snap elections and clarified that what is important is the full support of the stability program that Greece has signed.
