SYRIZA Leader Tsipras Urges Greeks To Get Rid Of Their 'Hated Regime'

“Against us is the old political system that pushed the country into a tragedy, which built the regime that led to the bailouts. We want to demolish this regime,” Greece’s former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated at a gathering of SYRIZA’s central committee in Athens.
“We do not regret having fought nor having chosen at the end to avoid catastrophe,” the SYRIZA leader said, while he added: “Whoever wants to escape has the right to do it but we are moving forward, we have not seen our best battles yet.”
During his speech, Tsipras, apart from urging his supporters to fight back against the old and “hated” political system, he also tried to explain his decision to agree to a third bailout package for Greece. He referred to Panagiotis Lafazanis’ newly established political party “Popular Unity,” the Greek main opposition “New Democracy,” as well as former Greek Parliament President Zoi Konstantopoulou.
During the same event, Greece’s former Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos revealed that he will be a candidate for SYRIZA during the September 20 vote, admitting though that during the previous election period SYRIZA should have avoided making so many promises.
The party’s nationwide meeting is convened for two consecutive days (August 29-30) with the participation of the party’s central committee, the members of the Prefectural Committees and party lawmakers at “Athinais” Cultural Center.
Alexis Mitropoulos out of SYRIZA’s list
