Online Networks Rule Social Life of Greeks

facebook4-afp_3Half the Greek population has an account on at least one social media platform, according to a recent publication in the Greek newspaper Kathimerini. Greeks spend more than 80 minutes per day on social networks.
Facebook is the favorite platform among Greeks while it also shows the highest activity rates.The largest activity growth was recorded on Youtube, where Greek user accounts increased by 79%, reaching a total of 634,050. A similar increase was recorded in Twitter user accounts, reaching 49%.
Possibly looking to tap into the popularity and usage of social media platforms, it appears that more news websites are also being created. It is estimated that 155 news websites were established in 2014. Blogs also showed a slight increase with 55,636 sites in 2015, compared to 55,222 in 2014.
Greek research agency Focus Bari estimated that Greeks’ “networking” consists of relating to people on social media via playing games, while the average time spent on social media websites between January and March of 2015 was calculated at 82.2 minutes per day.
