Brutal Beating Suspect Surrenders in Mykonos

vangelis-pepposGreek authorities in Mykonos had been searching for the 25-year-old club bouncer who beat up a Cypriot national on Sunday, September 6 around 11:30 pm.
The victim and his wife were in the club, where the man reportedly had a fight with a British tourist. The club bouncer had to intervene and he took both men outside. The victim, Vangelis Peppos attempted to go back to the club, but he was not granted access. At that moment and for unclear reasons, the offender lost his temper and mercilessly beat Peppos, who collapsed on the ground, unconscious and covered in blood.
After the incident the bouncer disappeared, while the victim was transferred to the local health center and later to Thriaseio Hospital in Athens, where doctors are currently trying to keep him alive.
Vangelis Peppas, a Cypriot national, lives in Mykonos and works as an upholsterer. On the night of the attack he was on a date with his wife.
According to Greek authorities, the suspect was in hiding, waiting until he crime was no longer considered in flagrante, before surrendering to the authorities. On Tuesday, September 8, two days after the incident he arrived at the local police station where he gave himself up. Since authorities could not arrest him, he was released and given 48 hours to prepare his pleas.
Police and judicial authorities in Greece are investigating the case thoroughly, since they have yet to fully clarify how the young Cypriot was injured.
Vangelis Peppos is currently in a coma, in the ICU, struggling to stay alive due to serious head injuries. His relatives and friends are constantly by his side.
