Greek Elections: SYRIZA Lead Marginally in Polls, 4 Parties Fighting for Third Place

dimoskopisi_464_355A new opinion poll published on Tuesday shows SYRIZA leading marginally over New Democracy, while four parties are fighting for the crucial third place.
The survey, conducted by Pulse for Action 24 television, also shows that Alexis Tsipras leads, marginally again, over Vangelis Meimarakis as more suitable for prime minister, while the New Democracy chief received more favorable opinions over Tsipras on his stance during the campaign.
Specifically, 28 percent of participants would vote for SYRIZA while 27.5 percent would vote for New Democracy. Another battle is fought by four different parties over who is going to play the crucial role of the third party.
The poll shows Golden Dawn coming third at 7 percent, followed by the PASOK/DIMAR alliance at 6.5 percent. The Greek Communist Party (KKE) comes fifth at 6 percent, while To Potami (The River) received a 5.5 percentage.
Popular Unity and the Centrist Union tie with 3.5 percent each, while Independent Greeks (ANEL) seem that they would not be in parliament, as they gathered only 2 percent.
The number of undecided participants is decreasing as election date is approaching, with only 8.5 percent of participants saying that they haven’t decided yet who they would vote for.
ND president Vangelis Meimarakis received positive comments by 44 percent of participants, while Alexis Tsipras came second with 41 percent. However, 35 percent of respondents said that Tsipras is more suitable for prime minister, while 33 said the same about Meimarakis.
The poll also shows that the majority of voters (44 percent) would prefer a coalition government formed by the first party along with one or two smaller parties, while 39 percent of participants want to see a coalition government of SYRIZA and New Democracy.
