Greek Elections: Leading Party Chiefs Play Blame Game

tsipras-meimarakisThe election campaigns of the two leading parties continue as the SYRIZA and New Democracy chiefs play the blame game exchanging accusations.
Alexis Tsipras spoke in Ioannina on Thursday accusing ND leader Vangelis Meimarakis of sheer propaganda when he says that he wants an all-party coalition and speaks of national unity. “They try to show that we are all the same,” he said.
Tsipras said that his opponent is hiding his plan for national subservience and he is asking for SYRIZA to participate. “By depriving SYRIZA of a strong people’s mandate, they plan on making the party a hostage of their policies,” he added.
Tsipras insisted that his is “the only party that can keep the country on its feet… and lead it to liberation from memoranda and the pathologies that led us to them.”
The conservative party leader spoke on Kontra television on Friday and reiterated his proposal to his opponent that SYRIZA and New Democracy should cooperate after the elections. At the same time he accused the former prime minister for making promises he could not keep and for that reason he keeps dragging the country to new elections.
“Today citizens must compare the bed of roses that Tsipras promised them before the elections and what he has done over the past seven months,” Meimarakis said. “He said he would abolish ENFIA and now he’s about to take the keys from our homes. He said he’d bring back the 13th pension and now he’s making cuts,” he added.
The ND leader stressed that “there are no magic solutions in politics.” He also blamed Tsipras for failing in the debt negotiations by adding another 90 billion to the debt burden.
