European Commission to Disburse 30 Mln Euros to Greece for Refugee Crisis

european-commissionThe European Commission plans to provide Greece with the 30 million euros for the country’s efforts to deal with the ongoing refugee crisis.
European Commission spokesperson Margaritis Shinas said that the Greek Interior Minister submitted all the necessary documents for the establishment of an agency that will handle the money given for the refugee crisis and that the request is being reviewed under an urgent status,  the Athens Macedonian News Agency reports.
The spokesperson added that the Greek Government plans to request the activation of the Civil Protection Mechanism.
Natasha Bertaud, another European Commission spokesperson noted that Frontex, Europol and European Asylum Support Office agents will be deployed at the port of Piraeus, Greece and Sicily, Italy to help with the registration, identification, and location of migrants and refugees.
Turkish Security Forces Prevent Migrant and Refugee Entrance to Greece
Turkish authorities stopped migrants and refugees from reaching the country’s border with Greece on Tuesday, Reuters reports.
The incident took place in the Turkish city of Edirne, located a few miles from the Greek border where the two countries meet with Bulgaria. Migrants and refugees were blocked from moving closer to Greece by temporary barricades and also cancelled bus routes to the area.
