The Greeks Men’s Basketball Team FIBA Eurobasket 2015 bid ended with a 73-71 nerve-wracking loss to Spain on Tuesday evening in the quarterfinals round.
The Greeks came back from a 7 point deficit at the beginning of the second half to finish the half with a two point lead. The Spanish fought back and the game went right down to the wire with Spain leading by one point. Greece was forced to foul the Spain with 2.7 seconds left. Spanish ace Pau Gasol missed his second shot leaving Greece with a very limited amount of time to turn things around.
Prior to the this defeat, the Greek team had gone undefeated in the tournament. The competition however is not over as Greece will play to secure a position in the 2016 Olympic Games. The Eurobasket’s seven best teams are guaranteed in next summer’s competition. The Greek team will now face the losing side of the France versus Latvia game set for September 17.
