European Central Bank Further Lowers Emergency Liquidity Assistance to Greece

ECBThe Bank of Greece announced on Thursday that the Governing Council of the European Central Bank decided on Wednesday to decrease the Emergency Liquidity Assistance level for Greece from 88.9 billion euros to 89.1 billion euros.
“This 0.2 billion euro reduction in the ceiling, that was requested by the Bank of Greece, reflects the improvement of the Greek banks’ liquidity, in the context of the decline of uncertainty and the stabilization of the flow of deposits of the private sector,” Bank of Greece’s announcement notes.
The Bank of Greece further notes that the ECB agreed to maintain this ELA level until October 6, when the ECB governing council will reconvene.
