Change in Education Ministry Name to Allegedly Cost 800,000 Euros – Ministry Refutes Claim

Ypourgeio-paideiasThe Greek Ministry of Culture, Education and Religion was renamed the Ministry of Education, Research and Religion during the formation of the new Greek government. This simple change will allegedly cost a lot more than one would imagine.
An article published by the Greek newspaper Ethnos claims that the ministry’s renaming alone will cost the Greek state 800,000 euros. This is also the amount the name change cost back in 2013 when the then Greek government turned the Ministry of Education, Religion, Culture and Sports into the Ministry of Education and Religion. The SYRIZAANEL coalition government renamed it the Ministry of Culture, Education and Religion in 2015 before this newest alteration.
The reported cost consists of changes in official stamps, printed logos, as well as school diplomas. The ministry’s name has changed five times since 2009 and Ethnos points out that the changes are so high that the ministry building’s sign currently has one of the older names.
Sources from the Education Ministry refute these clams, according to Naftemporiki newspaper. The newspaper’s alleged sources claim that the estimation is careless and further note that printing costs have been drastically reduced.
