US Secretary of State John Kerry Welcomes Continued Progress in Cyprus Peace Talks


The US Secretary of State has welcomed continued progress in Cyprus peace talks, under the auspices of UN.
State Secretary John Kerry met Saturday with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades who is in New York for the UN General Assembly. President Anastasiades was accompanied by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides.
According to a statement by State Secretary Spokesperson John Kirby, “the Secretary welcomed continued progress under the UN-facilitated process to reunify the island as a bi-zonal, b‎i-communal federation, and he reiterated strong U.S. support for the process”.
He added that the two leaders also discussed bilateral issues including US-Cyprus cooperation on counter-terrorism, as well as shared regional concerns.
Turkey’s words must become deeds, Cyprus President tells UN Secretary-General 
Developments in Cyprus, regional issues and the humanitarian crisis were discussed during a half-hour meeting between the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, at the international organization’s headquarters, in New York.
According to informed sources, Ban appeared during the meeting satisfied with the course of settlement talks in Cyprus, while anticipating the result of Turkish elections, due in November.
Anastasiades told Ban it was imperative Turkey`s words to be translated into deeds.
