Olympiacos Beats Arsenal 3-2 in Thrilling Champions League Encounter

olympiacosGreek soccer team Olympiacos F.C. overcame Arsenal on Tuesday evening in what could go down as a classic UEFA Champions League match.
The game was ignited in the 33rd minute, when Olympiacos midfielder Felipe Pardo took a shot from outside the box that deflected of an Arsenal defender and ended up in the back of the net. However, Olympiacos’s joy was short lived as Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott equalized two minutes later.
The Greek team restored the lead in the 40th minute. Fortounis’s corner kick proved too tricky to catch for David Ospina, as the Arsenal goalkeeper dropped the ball behind his own goal line after catching it midair.
Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez evened the score in the 66th minute with a close range goal. The tables were turned again a minute later with Olympiacos’s Finnbogason tapped the goal inside the net. The Greeks held on to the lead to secure an important 3-2 victory and to ascend to the second place of Group F, after Bayern Munich won Dinamo Zagreb 5-0 in the group’s other game.
Olympiacos’s next Champions League encounter is against Dinamo Zagreb on October 20.
