Tsipras_DavoutoglouGreek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in New York, as both statesmen are representing their nations in this year’s United Nations General Assembly annual General Debate.
Among the topics of the two leaders’ conversation was the refugee crisis, which is of direct concern for both nations, as refugees cross from Syria into Turkey with many of them continuing the journey to Greece. Tsipras and Davutoglu also deliberated the Cyprus problem as well as Greek-Turkish relations. The Greek prime minister spoke of a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue based on UN decisions.
The two men agreed to step up cooperation between the two countries on the refugee processing issue. They also discussed the enhancement of bilateral relations in the economy, culture and transportation sectors.
Tsipras stressed the importance of open diplomatic channels between the two nations and more measures for building trust between the two neighbors, underlining the need for respect of International Law.
