Appeals Justices Order 35 to Stand Trial in Postbank Bad Loans Case

postbankThe Appeals Justices’ Council ordered 35 people, on Tuesday, to stand trial for bad loans issued by TT Hellenic Postbank before its liquidation in 2013, including the bank’s former head Angelos Filippidis.

In their indictment, the justices said that all those facing charges in connection with bad loans issued by the bank from 2008 until 2010 must stand trial, as well as the bank executives that failed to ensure that the loans were secured. The charges against them include fraud and breach of faith, aggravated by laws concerning embezzlement and money-laundering.
In addition to Filippidis, those charged include Anastasia Sakellariou, who was head of the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF) from 2013 and supervised the recapitalisation of Greece’s banks until the previous SYRIZA government asked for her resignation last May. Also facing charges are a number of Greek business people, including Dimitris Kontominas, Lavrentis Lavrentiadis, Viktoras Restis and Dimitris Bakatselos.
