The Times newspaper published their annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings in which six Greek universities made the cut.
The newspaper places the University of Crete, located in the city of Rethimno, clearly ahead of other Greek universities. The British publication found that the university’s strongest aspect is the number of citations of studies of the institution’s work in research. The Times give the University of Crete 73.6 out of 100 for their studies’ citations.
Despite its prominence among Greek universities, the University of Crete slid down the Times’ rankings compared to last year when it was placed between the 301st and 350th best universities in the world. However its citations rating has increased from last year’s 67 score.
The 42-year old institution was also ranked as the 51st best University among the Word’s top 100 Universities that have existed for less than 50 years, in last year’s list. It is absent from category this year.
The University of Ioannina as well as the National Technical University of Athens were placed between the 401st and the 450th position by The Times. The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Athens University of Economics and Business and University of Patras all ranked between the 601st and the 800th place.
