Greek Culture and Sports Minister Highlights the Importance of Culture Heritage at UN Event

Aristides BaltasThe destruction of cultural heritage affects the core of human existence and undermines the prospects for progress, Culture and Sports Minister Aristidis Baltas said in a speech on Friday, during a meeting on the protection of cultural heritage at the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Our country has been very active in the field of protecting cultural property… the destruction of cultural heritage affects the very core of human existence, harms historical memory and undermines the prospects of progress through the deletion of cultural identity and historical continuity,” Baltas told participants.

The minister also reiterated Greece’s unwavering interest in combatting illicit trafficking and its continuing struggle for the return of the Parthenon Marbles to their home country.
