Greek Prime Minister Tsipras Deems U.S. Visit Successful

Tsipras at the Hellenic InitiativeGreek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras deems his visit to the U.S. was successful in bringing Greece to the forefront and upgrading its role in international developments, a government source told the Greek Reporter.
The Greek prime minister considers that Greece’s comeback to the forefront not as a part of the crisis but as a part of the solution. He said that Greece is repositioned internationally as a country with progressive proposals for resolving crises such as the refugee influx, the FYROM name issue and the Cyprus problem.
Tsipras said that Greece is in the middle of three different crises, namely the refugee influx, the European economic crisis and the Ukraine problem. Thereby, the country can be a pillar of stability in the region.
According to an assessment by the Greek government, parallel to his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Tsipras had important meetings with significant leaders of countries such as China, Brazil, Turkey and Egypt, while also having a constructive discussion with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
In his speeches in the UN 70th General Assembly, Tsipras stressed the importance of solving the Greek sovereign debt problem and the refugee issue. He said that Greece showed the face of humanism to refugees and made alternative proposals for tackling the issue.
The aim was to highlight the issue of debt as well in the world and in the country of Greece. Tsipras stressed we [Greece] are a country that is working, has progressive signs of improvement and wants to show the human face of European Union proposals tabled alternatives.
Regarding the progress of the reforms review, the Greek prime minister believes that prerequisites will be voted for and reforms will be implemented soon. The government is determined to expedite procedures so as to have the first review in three weeks.
Regarding the involvement of Gianna Angelopoulos and the rumor that she was the one who arranged the prime minister’s trip and the meetings with the Clinton Global Initiative and the Hellenic Initiative, the government source told the Greek Reporter that the prime minister came to New York with the state aircraft.
