Desperate for Funds; Greek Government Promotes Plastic Money Initiatives

tryfon-alexiadisDeputy head of the Greek tax collector’s union Tryfon Alexiadis confirmed the Finance Ministry’s intention to extend the use of plastic money. The Ministry will implement various incentives via mandate or voluntarily, aiming to reduce tax evasion. The new measures are expected to also help the state receive the VAT rates faster.
Alexiadis also stressed that no capital controls would be imposed on wages and called on the people to be calm since the ministry’s decision will not come as a surprise to anyone. However, he also mentioned that public sector employees are currently being paid via their bank accounts.
Furthermore, he added that any changes will be implemented after January 1, 2016, adding that the Greek Finance Ministry is trying to complete the plan and discuss with the banks.
“We need to change our attitude towards the taxpayers and the state,” he said.
