Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to Reorganize SYRIZA

tsipras-syriza-ccGreek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is planning on substantially reorganizing SYRIZA, in order to help the party fulfill its role in the new political landscape that emerged after the elections of January and September, 2015. He announced his intention during SYRIZA’s Central Committee meeting, where he also described the party as a “great popular leftist movement.”
Tsipras stressed that the elections showed that the electoral body had been divided in two and SYRIZA received votes mostly from the lower classes. He described the electoral landscape as polarized, where SYRIZA represents the popular party against the conservatives.
At the beginning of the meeting, Tsipras presented several changes that he wishes to make to the party in order to appeal to a larger electoral and social base. Tsipras asked the Central Commitee members to start a campaign for the registration of new members so that SYRIZA can strengthen its social base.
“We need to open up to the people who supported us,” he said. Tsipras also made it clear that the parties different platforms could not work independently anymore, as it happened with the Panagiotis’ Left Platform. He stressed that the party’s main priority is to appeal to the Greek youth and added that the party member’s should get involved with the government.
