Family Tragedy in Cyprus: Father Kills Son With a Shotgun

cyprus-crimeA family tragedy that took place in Limassol, Cyprus has shaken the local community. For what seems to be an insignificant reason, a 67-year-old man murdered his 19-year-old son in cold blood.
According to reports, the incident occurred after the two men had a fight. It appears that the father would not let the 19-year old military officer, who was on leave from his unit, borrow his vehicle. “We are faced with a family tragedy,” said the head of the Limassol Police Department Ioannis Sotiriades, who confirmed that the perpetrator was transferred to Limassol General Hospital in order to treat his injuries.
The man who was injured during the incident was eventually disarmed by his eldest son, 21, who had heard the two shots and rushed to the scene. “The perpetrator was found injured at the scene, and he was taken to Limassol General Hospital,” said the police officer, adding that they had found the shotgun the 67-year-old man used at the scene.
An autopsy was performed on scene by coroner Nicholas Charalambous. According to the statements of people who knew the family, they had been facing financial problems, as well as other issues.
The Greek-Cypriot pensioner was married to a foreigner, who was in fact his third wife and the mother of the 19-year-old victim.
