Greek Deputy Foreign Minister to Propose Isle for International Conference Site

mardasDeputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas proposed to transform a small island into an international conference site in the standards of Switzerland’s Davos.
Mardas had mentioned his idea in parliament before, but he did not reveal the name. Speaking to Mega television on Sunday, he said that the proposed islet is Aigileia, in the Aegean Sea, across Steira of Evia.
“The idea is to make it a center for the arts and philosophy by establishing a big convention center for international conferences and have summits of political leaders during the summer, like a summer Davos,” Mardas said.
Davos is a riverside town in Switzerland which is host to the World Economic Forum (WEF), an annual meeting of global political and business elites, often referred to simply as Davos.
The deputy explained that the cost to the Greek state will be minimal because the project could be funded by the United Nations. The Greek government will only cede the 3,200-acre island.
Another investment plan Mardas proposed was “The Throne of Zeus,” the construction of two resorts on Mount Olympus, new roads that will connect them and full illumination of the area to make it more attractive to tourists. He also proposed helicopter routes from Litochoro to the mountain-top resorts.
