President Pavlopoulos Stresses the Need for Parthenon Marbles to Return to Greece

Elgin_MarblesThe President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos in a meeting with professors Louis Godart and Dusan Sidjanski on Tuesday stressed the need the Parthenon Marbles to return to Greece because they belong to a unique monument and have no place anywhere else.
Pavlopoulos underlined that without these marbles, the Parthenon cannot be what it could be and should be in order to teach the visitor what democracy, freedom and humanity mean.

In reply to statements that if the Parthenon Marbles return to Greece, there will be a request for other monuments to return to their homeland, the President stated that “this allegation is not correct,” adding that the Parthenon presents a uniqueness for all mankind. As he noted, it is “the uniqueness of the Greek culture, especially in the 5th century BC.”

  1. Those marbles are Greek but they are also the best ambassadors of Greek culture in a world renown museum such as the British Museum.

  2. The islands are being invaded by tens of thousands of illegals. Government is incapable of addressing the reforms it just agreed to follow. Unemployment is high while GDP is falling and this moron of a President is concerned about the Parthenon marbles.

  3. The Parthenon Marbles are an immensely valuable part of Hellenic heritage, this alone is sufficient to press for their return. President Pavlopoulos said that they should be reurned to “in order to teach the visitor what democracy, freedom and humanity mean.” If that isn’t sufficient for some, in the context of Greece’s economic challenges, then the tourism appeal of a reunited selection of existing Parthenon Marbles is the bottom line in financial terms. At the moment the British Museum benefits hugely in monetising the Parthenon Marbles in its possession.

  4. So your point is that ancient Greece REALLY needs cultural “ambassadors” to plead its case. That central Athens is not a world class museum in itself. That Democracy alone, Hippocratus, Sophocles, Pericles, Solon, Plato & Aristotle provide insufficient value? The Parthenon should be moved to Japan and Knossos to Alabama?

And why not loot – sorry,”help yourself” – to everything else too? Oh right, that is already happening…

  5. To read on this commentary board actual Greeks laughing at the return of the Parthenon Marbles is PROOF that Greece is doomed.
