Student Demonstration in Athens Concludes Following Minor Clashes With Police

Student Demonstatrion in AthenStudents from Attica’s high schools and middle schools took to the Greek capital’s streets on Monday to express their grievances to the Greek government about the deficiencies in the country’s education system.
While a peaceful demonstration protesting against shortages in teachers, books and other educational resources, marched through the streets of Athens, a group of around 20 individuals began throwing rocks at two business establishments, specifically an Alpha Bank branch and the telecommunications company Cosmote’s branch, according to Kathimerini newspaper.
The tension further escalated when the group began throwing rocks at the Greek parliament‘s garage guards. Riot police intervened and there were small scale clashes between the two groups in front of the parliament, ANA-MPA reports.
The students who were carrying out the peaceful protest distanced themselves from those involved in these events.
