Turkey Grants Access to 'Military Areas' in Occupied Cyprus for Missing Persons

Turkey has granted access to 30 “military areas” in occupied Cyprus, over a three-year period for excavation of missing persons.
According to a press release issued Thursday by the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP), the Committee was notified by the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community; Mustafa Akıncı, that Turkey “had formally agreed to provide access for CMP excavation teams for all 30 currently known suspected burial sites in military areas in northern Cyprus”. The press release says that access will be given over a three year period, starting in January 2016, with ten sites to be excavated each year.
Cyprus government welcomes Turkey’s decision to provide access to CMP teams 
The Cyprus government has welcomed the decision of the Turkish army to provide access for CMP excavation teams in so-called military areas in the northern over a three year period.
A statement by the President of the Republic said “the Cyprus government welcomes the decision of the Turkish army to allow access for excavation to 30 sites within the so-called military areas,  and the occupied areas, it considers it a positive step in efforts to ascertain the fate of the missing”.
It said that after this positive development, “we anticipate and hope that Turkey will proceed with further steps in ascertaining the fate of the missing, specifically in granting unimpeded access to the Turkish Army`s archive and in helping locate burial sites where remains have been moved to”.
