Refugee Crisis Brings Greek Orthodox and Muslims Together in Prayer (Video)

A surprising incident took place on the Greek island of Lesvos. Greek Orthodox Christians and Muslims gathered in order to pray together for the refugees’ struggle.

A memorial service was organized on the island Wednesday, November 4, in memory of the refugees who drowned in the icy waters of the Aegean Sea while crossing the maritime borders between Turkey and Greece. Church representatives, refugees, volunteers, doctors as well as Lesvos residents and foreign journalists attended the event, paying their respects.

After the religious ceremony came to an end, Syrian refugees started praying in memory of the refugees who drowned. Among them were parents who had lost their children and husbands who had lost their wives in deadly shipwrecks.

“Through this symbolic gesture, we want to show the whole world that, regardless of religion and origin, we all stand united against the criminals who send mothers and young children to their death on a daily basis. Let’s join forces in a silent protest against the modern criminal slave traders and for the intervention to put an end to their murderous actions,” said the island’s mayor, Spyros Galinos during his speech at the event.

  1. This is a nice gesture. Unfortunately religious myths are precisely what started all these middle east conflicts, and have been causing conflicts since the very first civilizations.

Isn’t it about time for humanity to grow up? At least people that lived thousands of years ago had the excuse they were new to this whole civilization thing so didn’t know better. What’s our excuse?

Surely we can find far more interesting things to fight about over than whose invisible space leprechaun is the “real” one. (my money’s on Zeus)

  2. This is why I am Christian Identity and no longer “orthodox”. It’s not based on scripture in any way.

    “Whosoever
transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God.
He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and
    the Son.
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds”.

    2 John 9-11

Read Isaiah 43:3. These people have a short memory that will bring the wrath of God on us.

  3. How can Orthodox priests who preach that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, hold a joint prayer session with Muslims who deny that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God? The Christian bible clearly condemns mixing religions.

    2 Corinthians 6:16-17

“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,”

Marrying Christian ceremony to Islamic ceremony is an abomination to Christ, and at the very least it is strange and hypocritical for a Christian priest to join in prayer with those that deny Christ.

    Malachi Chapter 2 Verses 11:12

“Judah hath dealt treacherously, and abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god. The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.”

  4. This multifaith ceremony is a very rare occurence, and contradicts the teachings of the Orthodox Church. This small clique of priests doesn’t represent all Orthodox clergy, for instance Bishop Seraphim stated recently quote: “Greece suffered five centuries of Islamic tyranny under Turkish rule and building a mosque would offend the martyrs who freed us.”

Many Christians see the contradictions between priests behaviour and Christian doctrine, and leave Christianity, but they fail to see that Christ is not responsible for the actions of those who profess to be his followers. The Lord Jesus Christ warned about hypocrites amongst the clergy.

    Matthew 23:3
All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, things and do not.

  5. the refugee numbers arriving now will PALE in comparison to when iran and saudi arabia move from fighting proxy war in yemen, syira and iraq to the real thing. My feeling is that a sunni vs shi’ite war will happen – all the signs are there. There are regular attacks on shi’ite population in saudi arabia. With oil rices being so low, the IMF estimates saudi arabia may run out of funds in 5 or so years – once this happens it will be VERY difficult for the monarchy to control wahabists and sunni militants who want more power and to kill off shi’ites. This is a very real possibility as oil cannot rise, at least not for very long as electric cars would become a very compelling alternative if oil goes back to $100/barrel again eg Tesla, Nissan leaf, chevy bolt etc will fly out of showrooms if oil ever doubles. A sunni vs shi’ite war between saudi arabia and iran will be a magnet for muslim extremists around the globe and once it happens, many millions will come pooring into europe. What we are witnessing now with illegal muslim immigrants coming to Europe is just the first act.

  6. A mafia is trying to get new people to pay them. What does the other mafia has to say? They found a market sharing agreement for now….

  7. Seraphime says many non-sense concerning Greece’s independence, but we can understand as he is par of the church mafia. It were the British, French and Russian armies who freed Greece from the Ottoman Empire yoke. Of course just after Greece was under those 3 countries influence. It reminds me the history of Kosovo….
Building a mosque is not only for the Turkish minority but also for diplomats and foreign student or residents from countries which are friends with Greece (Algeria, Lebanon, Syrian, Iran, etc….) and some even suffered under the Turkish yoke too.
The sad part is that it is again the Greek tax payer who has to take care of the bill….

  8. Ioanna think if this were to happen in a radical Muslim country what do you think would have happened? You would be wearing a burka kneeling before a Mullah begging for mercy and forced to convert. This is yet another poorly staged event for the ignorant.

  9. I agree that the current wave of refugees is just the start. One reason I keep warning about leftists is because I can see that the end point for Greece is being so overun with illegal migrants that it no longer is a Greek state.

  10. By labelling the Orthodox Church a mafia it is clear that you harbor hatred towards the Orthodox Church and your comments are bias. In case you didn’t know it, the Greek Orthodox Church is credited with keeping the Greek language and identity alive during the 5 centuries of Islamic Ottoman Turkish occupation of Greece.

Without the Orthodox Church teaching the Greek people their language and Christian faith, (often secretly on pain of death if caught by Turkish authorities) Greeks would have been assimilated into Islam, absorbed by the Turkish nation and lost forever.

The pro-assimilation, pro-open borders, Radical Leftists of the Marxist SYRIZA and Marxist-Leninist, Stalin worshipping KKE are well aware of the key role played by Christianity and the Greek Orthodox Church in preventing the assimilation of the Greek people into Islam, which stopped their being absorbed into the Turkish nation, that is why atheist Radical Leftists hate Christianity and the Orthodox Church so much, that is why Radical Leftists recently removed references to the genocide of Pontic Greeks by the Turks from the schoolbooks.

On March 25, 1821, Bishop Germanos blessed a Greek flag at the Monastery of Agia Lavra and proclaimed the national uprising against the Ottoman Empire.
Orthodox clergy continued to play a leading role in the revolution such as Archimandrite Gregorios Papaflessas. In 1819, Gregorios Papaflessas was ordained to the highest priesthood position, Archimandrites, a rank next to the Bishop and fell in battle in 1825 fighting to the death against the ISLAMIC Egyptian forces of Ibrahim Pasha who had come to Greece to assist their ISLAMIC Turkish brothers in slaughtering and suppressing the Indigenous Greek Orthodox Christian populace.

  12. CI takes a lot of study. My Christian faith is stronger then ever because of it. Understanding that the descendants of Jacob, true Israel, are the people(not faith), that became the Christian Nations(Ethnos/Gentiles) of Europe. Why else would God tell us to live separately(apartheid), stay away from strange flesh and no bastard shall enter the kingdom of heaven. You might want to look up the etymology of the word Arab. Read Isaiah 43:3-5 in the context of the Sumerian/Phoenician origins to these regions.

    Matthew 15:24
While Seraphim is correct in this instance, years back when he said international zionists were responsible for the economic crises in Greece. He was typically accused of being an anti senite nazi. His response on “Mega” was, Hitler was a zionist tools and Christian are one in faith with the jews
Reading Gottfried Feder’s – Manifesto For The Abolition Of Interest Slavery proves Hitler fought to free Europe from Jewish usury and Christ said the jew (Canaanites and Edomites), are a bad tree that will produce no good fruit and of their farther the devil. Not very sound theology.

  13. You might want to look into origins of the “House of Saudi” and The Yinon and Coudenhove-Kalergi plans.

Everything is going perfectly to plan!

  14. without a doubt we are moving towards an all out war between suaid arabia and iran – they are already fighting it out in syria (IRG has about 15,000 troops + iranian backed hezbollah on the shi’ite side vs sunni extremists in Islamic State, Al Nusra, Al Qeada of which saudi arabia funds and islamic sunni nutcases from saudi arabia are there in their thousands), yemen (iran backed houthi rebels vs Saudi’s aerial campaign as well as the UAE) and even directly in Saudi Arabia where sunni clerics call fro the death of shi’ites. There are intermittent attacks by sunni militants on the shi’ite population in saudi arabia as well as on the monarchy – the IMF says saudi arabia will run out of money in 5 years at current oil prices. Once this happens, I feel all out war is inevitable (which will probably be backed by leftists mostly from europe who think the saudi monarchy is corrupt and think there will be a democracy there if they overthrow them – there is precedent for this in lybia, egypt and syria where leftists thought muslims wanted democracy but have instead seen theocracy is what they really prefer). Watch the wave of illegal muslim immigrants poor into europe then and watch the lies from leftists who say they are all good people.

  15. absolutely agreed – greece is certainly headed in the direction of other balkan nations (kosovo, bosnia, macedonia) all with muslim tensions and yes, it will be Tsipras fault. At 200,000, they already demand autonomy in Komotini, Turkey frequently issues threats over this minority and have acted in the past to murder orthodox christians to, what they say” is to protect their muslim minority. Now imagine greece with 1 million plus muslims, all complaining about so called perceived discrimination and demanding autonomy – who is to blame for giving them all citizenship? Tsipras and his leftist buffoons
