Luxembourg Beat Greece 1 – 0 in Shocking Loss at Coach Skibbe's Debut Match

×ÏËÅÌÐÁÓ ËÏÕÎÅÌÂÏÕÑÃÏ - ÅËËÁÄÁ (ÖÉËÉÊÏ)The debut of Michael Skibbe on Greece’s bench was marked by yet another loss of the national football team, as this time they were beaten 1-0 at a friendly game in Luxembourg.

Greece’s players didn’t manage to score again as their horrendous run of form continued. They lost after a stoppage time strike from Luxembourg’s Aurelien Joachim.

The loss came after the Greek team has endured probably its worse run since being knocked out of the World Cup last summer, winning just one game as they finished at the bottom of their qualifying group for the 2016 European Championship.

After two humiliating defeats by Faroe Islands in the qualifiers, the latest defeat in Luxembourg is yet another blow for the Euro 2004 winners, with the loss coming against a team ranked 89 places below them in the FIFA rankings, at 146th place.

“The problem is psychological,” the German coach commented after the game.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t take advantage of all the good chances we had to score. This gave our opponents the opportunity to stay in the game, score a goal at the end and win,” Skibbe said.
