Greek PM and President Reject Rumors about an Ecumenical Government

pavlopoulos-tsiprasThe rumors regarding a new ecumenical government flared up after the current coalition government lost two members, reaching a total of 153 MPs. The rumors gained even more ground after Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras asked to speak with the President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos. However, a few hours ago, both the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic rejected those rumors.
The Greek Government has announced its intention of achieving an agreement with the other political forces on important national issues, such as the refugee crisis and the critical institutional reforms in the insurance and education sectors. According to officials within the government, their wish to reach an understanding with the other parties is a way to promote the concept of political dialogue and communication that should be part of every democratic political system.
Furthermore, they stressed that the scenarios about an ecumenical government are nothing more than wishful thinking for the skeptics that wish to control the government policy, particularly in addressing corruption issues.
Meanwhile, the President of the Hellenic Republic continues to support the idea of political stability in the country.
