European Commission: Greece is not Alone in the Refugee Crisis

commissionThe belief that Greece is “not alone in the management of the refugee flows”  was highlighted today by the European Commission representative, Natasha Bertro.
She was called upon to comment on if the European Commission believes Greece should be left alone to handle the refugee flows on her territory. Bertro answered that the Commission is working to ensure all the necessary help and support the country of Greece needs is provided. “Greece is not alone. We are working with the Greek authorities trying to raise the chances of receiving 50.000 refugees in other European countries by the end of the year” said Bertro, noting that the biggest part of this effort is supported by the United Nations through the rent subsidy.
Bertro added that the general director of structural funds for the European Commission; Martin Fervey is in Greece to coordinate a better joint effort between Greek authorities and the Commission. The European Commission has already provided Greece financial help in the sum of 30 million euros for the refugee crisis and is now trying to find ways to give more financial support.
Bertro’s also commented on the presence of FRONTEX at the borders of Greece with FYROM and Albania. She said that all the necessary efforts are being made so there can be bigger involvement of this European service there. The presence of FRONTEX was agreed upon by the leaders of the Balkan countries.
