A 2-year-old boy from Syria was found wandering on his own at the borders of Evros-Greece. It is unknown how he ended up there or how he got lost from his parents but for the time being he has found shelter with the people from the Metadrasi Foundation.
The Metadrasi Foundation is an operational partner of the UN for the refugees, it was created in 2009. It’s purpose was to help with the refugee flows and ensure that everything happens in respect to human rights and national and international legislation.
Metadrasi’s goal now is to locate the 2-year-old boy’s parents in the same way they have in similar cases with other children in the past. It is believed that thousands of children come to Greece on their own, having lost their parents or having been separated from them. During the past 7 months the foundation has taken in 256 children. They have transferred them to preliminary reception centers or hotspots so the process of identification can continue and they can be offered care, support, and protection from the trafficking and exploitation circuits.
