Greek Parliament Staff Indicted for Forged Qualification Documents

parliamentFifteen parliamentary employees are accused of using forged qualification documents to be hired, after a probe that had started several years ago.
According to sources close to the Greek government, House Speaker Nikos Voutsis revealed that the investigation had started years ago but very little was done by his predecessor to proceed further in indicting the employees.
The indicted employees had used forged high school diplomas and university degrees to be hired. The judiciary is also expected to probe two more cases relating to House employees on short-term contracts who were re-hired along with another 41 staff on Wednesday to work on the parliament television channel.
One of the two is alleged to have used forged qualifications to secure a job while the second was allegedly working in another post in the civil service sector and had pocketed overtime wages for the Parliament job since 2008 despite never turning up.
The probe had started when Vangelis Meimarakis was House Speaker during the New Democracy-PASOK administration. At the time the ministry of the interior had started a probe on qualification documents on all public sector employees.
