Seamen's Strike Announced for Next Thursday

pnoThe National Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced a 24-hour nationwide seamen’s strike next week on Thursday, during which no ships will set sail from ports around the country.
“Unfortunately, not only have the problems faced by the seamen’s sector not been resolved by those governing they are instead becoming ever greater and more acute, with more new demands and promoted the new measures and cuts of the third memorandum,” a PNO announcement said.
The union said the strike was being called in response to the dismantling of the NAT seamen’s pension fund, the reduction of crew positions on passenger ships, pension cuts, rising unemployment and increasing black employment in the sector.
Journalists are also set to strike on Dec. 2, ahead of general 24-hour strike called by main unions.
