Greek Supreme Court Reportedly In Favor of Extraditing Syrian Citizen to the United States

Areios-PagosThe vice prosecutor of Areios Pagos, one of Greece’s Supreme Courts, supported on Tuesday the extradition of a Syrian citizen to the United States to stand trial there, the citizen is currently being held in Greece.
The Syrian is being accused of conspiracy to commit forgery and to create counterfeit passports, identity theft, and deception of the United States government, Kathimerini newspaper reports.
According to the report, a United States agent had bought four fake passports from the accused Syrian in Athens last summer, and recorded the transaction, unbeknownst to the him.
Kathimerini further reports that the Syrian confessed to forging identification papers but claimed he does not have any ties to any terrorist activities. He also noted that the United States trapped him and led him to commit a crime he would not have committed otherwise and expressed his concern that he would not stand a fair trial in the USA. His attorney also claimed he should not be extradited as the crimes were committed in Greece.
The vice-prosecutor reportedly thought that their claims were not enough to form a case against extradition.
The Supreme Court will make their final ruling next week.
