People in Greece move on average 3-5 times in their lives, while 70% of people in Greece are homeowners, of which 28% live in a flat and 42% in a house. Furthermore, Greek people prefer urban areas over rural and they believe that despite the crisis the cost of living remains relatively high, according to the results of a survey conducted in the European countries by the real estate network RE/MAX.
The majority of Greeks still prefer living in major urban centers, while about 20% of the people in the country still live in their family home with their parents. At the same time only 8.8% of people in Greece live alone, noted the survey. Mainly men aged between 50 and 59 years live in an owned house, usually in a city. In contrast, the majority of tenants are female, live in a city and are in the age group from 30 to 39 years.
It was also revealed that 56% of Greek respondents live with their partner. However, there is only a small percentage of people who live with their friends or other relatives.
Only 37% of Greeks think that living in their country is expensive and only nearly a quarter believes that the cost of living is growing. In contrast, in countries such as Switzerland and Finland 66% and 62% of respondents respectively believe that the cost of living is high.
Currently, people in Greece spend 50% of their net income on housing, which is 10% higher than the European average and also 10% more than they would like to spend.
Finally, the survey found that nearly one-third of Greeks have a secondary residence, which are mostly located in a rural areas in Greece and used for holiday purposes.
