Athens Preparing for Over 200 Festivities Over the Christmas Holidays

athensMore than two hundred and forty music and theater events, street performances, art exhibitions, games and educational programs will take place in Athens as part of the Greek capital’s Christmas celebration. The municipality aims to spread the holiday spirit and an optimistic atmosphere for peaceful coexistence.
“Athens is celebrating and the festivities unite people,” said the Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis when he invited residents and visitors of the city, people of every age, ethnicity, gender and religion to send a message of solidarity, hope and peaceful coexistence.
Syntagma Square will be turned into a dominant music scene from December 8 to 27. A total of 25 concerts by acclaimed artists have been scheduled to take place. Furthermore, several concerts will also take place in Thiseio under Acropolis, starting with Sugahspank and the Swing Shoes, the Athens Swing Cats and Athens Leading Hope, leading up to a major concert by Panos Mouzourakis, the Athens Symphony Orchestra and Filippos Pliatsikas on New Year’s Eve. Admission to all events is free.
Despite the tragic events that have occurred in major European cities over the last few months, the Mayor of Athens stressed that Athens remains a safe, vibrant and friendly European capital.
