Cyprus House President Says Turkish Stance Does Not Justify Euphoria

house-presidentThe expectations for a more positive approach by new Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci to the Cyprus problem are not justified, nor is the climate of euphoria over the Turkish stance, Greek Cypriot President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou has pointed out.
He added that Cyprus could not remain the only divided country in Europe and at the same time Europe could not tolerate the presence of an occupying force on its doorstep.
In a speech at the annual memorial service for former President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos, Omirou called on all to struggle for the termination of the Turkish occupation, unity of the state, and safeguarding human rights and fundamental freedoms for the people of Cyprus.
