Mayor of Volos Suspended from Duty

beosvolosBusinessman and mayor of Volos-Greece, Achilleas Beos, has been officially suspended from his duties, as he is due to stand trial for allegedly being part of a ring that fixed soccer matches when he was the chairman of the local team Olympiakos Volos.

The trial of Beos and his fellow suspects has been scheduled for April 15, 2016.

The businessman is expected to appeal the decision to suspend him from his role at the local authority.

In the meantime, the municipal council of Volos will have to elect one of its deputy mayors to stand in for Beos.
