Welfare Secretary General Dimitris Karellas said that one in three students goes to school hungry, announcing a program that would feed some of the children.
Speaking on Mega television on Tuesday morning, Karellas said that 200,000 out of 600,000 elementary school students across Greece are undernourished.
The general secretary said that under the 2016 program to tackle the humanitarian crisis, there will be a pilot program that will offer lunch to 11,000 students in 64 schools in poorer areas of the Attica region. The program will then extend to all schools across Greece.
The welfare general secretariat, Karellas, has already gathered some funds from donations to implement the program.
