New Democracy Leader Mitsotakis Sends Message of Party Unity

mitsotakis2“We are moving forward together and let’s forget what is dividing us,” said New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis after his election victory.
The new conservative party leader said that people gave a clear mandate for the renewal of New Democracy. He also asked for party unity.
Mitsotakis congratulated his opponents – Vangelis Meimarakis, Apostolos Tzitzikostas and Adonis Georgiadis – for a good race and said he expects their cooperation ahead of the next days for the party.
The party president thanked the New Democracy voters and promised that with their help he will make it the great center-right party and unite all those who oppose the “populism of the present incompetent government.”
“Greek citizens must know that the clock has started ticking to close the last chapter of populism in Greece. Mr. Tsipras must be aware of that,” Mitsotakis said.
“New Democracy can unite all Greeks. It has done so in the past, it can do so now,” Mitsotakis concluded.
The new party leader will have meetings on Monday with former prime ministers Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras and his rival Meimarakis and will discuss unity and the strategy to follow as opposition.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called Mitsotakis on the telephone and congratulated him on his victory.
