Greek Farmers Vow to Intensify their Protests

farmesIn an expected move, the majority of Greeceā€™s farmers have said they will intensify their protests against the government, thereby closing the door on further discussions.
Farmers have been blocking major roads for several days, causing considerable problems in the already badly damaged Greek economy.
The Coordinating Committee of Farmers said it will engage in a dialogue with prime Minister Tsipras if he withdraws its measures for new taxes and cancels the proposed plan for pension reform.
Given the government’s intentions not to surrender to popular pressures on what it considers to be essential “reforms,” Greek farmers vow to extend their siege of major roads.
In the meantime, farmers on the nationā€™s major islands, such as Crete, Rhodes and elsewhere, are also threatening with extended protests and demanding action on their demands that the government withdraws its anti-popular measures on taxes and pension reform.
