Greek National Theater Cancels Controversial “Terrorist” Play

Greek National TheaterThe decision made by Greek National Theater to stage a play based on a script by November 17th terrorist Savvas Xiros, who is serving  a multi-life sentence, generated  a huge controversy in the land that gave birth to democracy, leading to the play’s cancellation.

The play recounted the hearings in the court case against S. Xiros, but was regarded by conservative voices inside and outside Greece as Greek National Theater’s direct support of terrorist activities.

Part of the problem with public outrage over Greek National Theater’s decision to stage the play was related to the fact that it was made possible with public funds at a time when the nation is essentially bankrupt.
