Greek Government Adopts New Measures for Refugee Crisis

Measures for RefugeeGreek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met today with his top ministers to discuss the refugee crisis that plagues Greece and to consider what additional measures can be taken, especially given EU’s pressure for more efficient border checks.
Among others, Minister of Defense Panos Kammenos, State Minister Alekos Flabouraris, and Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Thodoris Dritsas were present at the meeting in Maximou Mansion.
The Greek PM and his ministers agreed to expedite the completion of works for the quick transfer of refugees and migrants from the so-called hot spots, which are primarily the islands of Samos, Lesbos, Chios, Kos, and Leros.
Specifically, it was agreed that the Greek Ministry of Defense would hire immediately temporary coordinators for the above mentioned islands and will supervise the completion of projects in the hotspots so everything would be ready within a couple of weeks.
It was also agreed that the Greek Ministry of Defense would put in place mobile kitchens for the refugees and convert some of the nation’s military camps into refugee relocations centers. Refugee centers will also hire extra personnel for the quicker and more efficient identification of people arriving in Greece.
